Rolex Kentucky 2013 Finalizes The Participant List

Will ColemanLexington, February 6, 2013: The long awaited list is out. And, so are the dates for the Rolex Kentucky 2013 event. April will see the equestrian competition being held from April 25 to April 28. After the success of last year’s Rolex Kentucky event, spectators are all the more excited for the event to begin.

Anticipations are high as the names of 2013 participants in the Rolex equestrian competition are out. Each experience of the Rolex Kentucky event is a unique one. The news about participant names being finalized is one of firsts to make rounds after the one which talked about EEI making financial contributions of $20,000 for supporting a range of charities that serve the interests of and support the Commonwealth of Rolex Kentucky.

This year’s list of event highlights begins with the list of people preparing to be at the event. The names that are on the list include Jinnie Brannigan – Cambalda, Will Coleman – Twizzel, Sinead Halpin – Manior De Carneville, and Stephen Blauner – Neville Bardos and Trading Aces.

Braniggan talks about her first experience at Rolex Kentucky, which was in 2003. She says, I was 14, I believe, and I was quite fortunate to be Allison Springer’s first working student at the time.” She adds, “I’m not quite sure who won that year, but that ride will always be in the forefront of my mind, probably along with every other person who saw it. And that’s what I love about our sport—it’s not always just about results.” It is her first attempt at Rolex. With regard to her companion at Rolex Kentucky she says, “At 11 years old, “Ping,” as he’s called around the barn, is quite the character, to say the least. He has the attitude of a Irish pony but is all you can ask for when you get that working in your favor.”

While Coleman calls his story with the Rolex Kentucky a bit recycled, he talks fondly about his horse. “Twizzel’s career has been riddled with some tough episodes. He has had a multitude of soundness issues. His shoulder injury is well documented because of the Burghley incident, when the horse went horribly lame literally a minute before entering the dressage arena, prompting withdrawal.

Rolex KentuckyThere have been other more run-of-the-mill leg issues common in our event horses, but those have been minor for the most part and he has always come back strong, even though the timing of them was often, for lack of a better word, poor,” he says.

Blauner also has a lot to share. But he “picks up the bit on how (they) got there”, which was in the summer of 2010. He also exclaimed, “This is Neville’s year to get back to Rolex. And, maybe Trading Aces first 4*. We’re (all ten of their owners) keeping fingers crossed. Neville apparently did not enjoy his trip to England for the Olympics (he was a reserve horse)”. Halpin begins her tale with an interesting background. She talks about the Kentucky Horse Park.

One thing common between the two is that both are classics for they never go out of style no matter what the occasion. Another similarity: both look absolutely ravishing in white and gold. Ozz Rises From Injury, Lands In The Rolex 24

Jan 22, 2013: No one was sure about Ozz Negri in the Rolex 24 race until the news was all over the internet. Negri is now a shortlisted name in the Rolex 24 Daytona. The 2012 Rolex 24 Daytona Champion qualified for the drive that will take place on January 27 this year. He had suffered a lower leg injury while training on a mountain bike in the offseason which is currently going on.

A recovered and joyous Negri exclaimed, “I’m really excited to get the news that I’ll be able to drive again in the 24-the idea of not getting to was just too much to think about!” said Negri. “I am not sure how much time I will be driving; we will just have to see how it goes and make a decision. It’s very important to not jeopardize the team’s result. That is the main concern. A big thanks to Marcos for coming on board to help us out, we are incredibly lucky to have a guy like that join us.”

Negri has passed the fitness test for participating in the Rolex 24 Daytona event. Because of his leg injury he was sidelined for the opening test of the Grand Am season that will be held this year. Ozz was replaced by Marcos Amborse to take part in the “roar before the 24”. Negri was the ideal driver for the Michael Shank Racing, his injury was a setback for the entire event. The significance of the inaugural race for the team was all the more important because it will be the defending Rolex 24 at Daytona Champions in 2013.

The next best choice for the inaugural race was Ambrose. During the roar before 24 the full-driver line up for this year’s Michael Shank Racing for Rolex Grand Am was announced.

Negri is one of the most important team members of Michael Shank Racing. He was a contributor to the first Rolex 24 victory of the team owner last year. In fact the entire team line-up of last year has been significant in pushing up its ranking. In this Grand-Am the Michael Shank Racing team is targeting a second victory. The team made its debut in Grand Am in the year 2004. In the 2013 Rolex Grand Am, Ozz Negri and John Pew will be joined by co-drivers AJ Allmendinger and Justin Wilson. The team is a promising one for the No. 60 Ford-Riley Daytona Prototype.

Rolex Yachtsman And Yachtswoman Of The Year Names Out

Johnny HeinekenPORTSMOUTH, January 17, 2013: The most awaited results with regard to the Rolex sailing event are finally out. Johnny Heineken (24) has been named the US Sailing’s 2012 Rolex Yatchman of the year. The other name that has been awarded the famous Rolex title is that of Jennifer French who won the Paralympic Silver medal in the year 2012 in the SKUD-18 class.

Heineken is a renowned name in the sport of kiteboarding. He also has to his merit the 2012 Kiteboarding Course Racing World Championship. His exceptional kiteboarding performance in 2012 has won him the Rolex Yachtsman of the year title.  Nonetheless, this was not just his performance in the Kiteboarding Course Racing World Championship in Cagliari, Italy, that won him the 2012 Yachtsman of the year title but also a series of others that he topped.

In the Kiteboarding North American Course Racing Championship, Heineken left the 45 competitors behind. He also topped 34 competitors at the Pacific Pilsner Canadian Kiteboard Course Racing Nationals that took place in Canada. It is not surprising that his name was on the Yachtsman of the year list in 2011 as well. An honored and humbled Heineken said, “To even be mentioned in connection with this award is an honor; so many of my role models are on the list of recipients. But it’s also exciting that kiting has been accepted into the world of yachting.  It’s pretty amazing how far the class has come in the last five years and exciting for me to be involved in the development of that.”

In one of his interviews Heinekens explained, “I started kiteboarding a lot later than many of the people I’m competing against, but I did grow up sailing and that’s what has given me a strong background to be a good kite racer,” said Heineken. He added, “Typical sailboat racing courses are what we’ve optimized our gear for; it’s the same game, the same tactics, really.”

Jennifer FrenchFrench has also won her homeland a number of laurels. An ecstatic French exclaims, “I’m extremely humbled and overwhelmed by the honor of being placed in the company of so many fantastic sailors who have had such an influence on me. It’s a huge achievement, but I wouldn’t be given this award if it weren’t for JP and my husband, Tim, and a large team of special people in our lives who made it possible.” She adds, “This is also a huge step for disabled sailing and for the recognition of all those who have worked so hard over the years to make disabled sailing possible.  Paralympic sailing has come so far; Nick Scandone (the Paralympic Gold Medalist who was named US Sailing’s Rolex Yachtsman of the Year in 2008) was really the first person who broke ground for this, and JP and I are honored to follow in his footsteps.”
