The 2010 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event Scheduled To Be Held April 22-25

Rolex Kentucky Event

The 2010 season of the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day event is scheduled to be back with all its glory from April 22 to 25. The CCI**** event will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. The Rolex Kentucky three-day event is one of the three events that are held as part of the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing. It is traditionally held on the last weekend of April, which is just a week prior to the Kentucky Derby. Though the competition takes place over a period of four days that span from Thursday to Saturday, the name still suggests it to be a three day event. The first two days are dedicated to dressage as a result of the large number of entries, while the third day is dedicated to the cross-country event and the last day is a show-jumping competition.

The three-day event is fondly referred to as Rolex by many equestrians. The three-day event is the only four star equestrian competition to be held in the United States. The level of competition at the Rolex Kentucky three-day event is the same as that of Eventing at the Olympics, which is represented by its four star status. The total pool of prize money for the Rolex Kentucky event is $190,000 which is distributed amongst the top riders. The rider and horse duo to take the first place stand a chance to win prize money of $65,000 along with a Rolex timepiece. The four days of competition are not only a test of the rider’s ability, but are also a test of the breeding and training of the horse. The world’s best riders and horses compete in the three rounds of the Rolex Kentucky event on the Kentucky Horse Park grounds, not only for their share of the prize money but also for a chance to win the coveted Rolex timepiece.

Rolex

Since the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day event is part of the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing, Oliver Townend of Great Britain would give his best to win the competition and become the second rider in history to win the Grand Slam title along with the $250,000 prize money. Pipa Funnell is the only rider so far to have won the Rolex Grand Slam of Eventing. Oliver Townend has already won the first two legs by claiming victory at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton and Land Rover Burghley Four Star Events. The only feat left to conquer for the Briton is the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day event. The event this year would be a special treat for equestrian fans the world over due to the high level of competition amongst the riders. While the first two days of the event would be focused on judging the training and breeding of the horse, the last day of show jumping would be a true test of the speed and coordination between the rider and the steed. According to the Event Director and Executive Vice President of Equestrian Events Inc., Jane Atkinson, this year would create new benchmarks and records in equestrian sport and would be one that fans the world over should watch out for.

The Rolex China Sea Race Begins On April 1, 2010

Rolex China Sea Race

With just a month left for the Rolex China Sea Race to take off, the sailing world is all abuzz with the boats getting into the final rounds of safety preparations for the Offshore Category 1 Race. The race is going to start on 01 April 2010, Thursday. This year would mark the 25th time when the yachts will brave the 565 nautical miles. The race will start from Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong and will meet its end in Subic Bay, Philippines.

April 1962, marked the first time when yachts commenced the now hugely popular China Sea Race. A total of five yachts participated in the race including three yachts from RHKYC, one from Manila and one from Japan. During this time, two minesweepers of the Hong Kong Royal Naval Reserve escorted the yachts for the first 100 miles of the total 600 miles. Yachts Hector Ross on the Reverie crossed the finish line after six days to be victorious in the event.

The China Sea Race was initially organized every two years. Keeping in mind the success of the races and the name that it had earned for itself, the race reserved a place in the World Ocean Racing Championships which were held every three years before it finally recognized by the Racing Ocean Racing Club in 1972. Since that day, the Rolex China Sea Race has been attracting increased interest and gives a platform to the sailing fraternity of the Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.

Rolex The Rolex China Sea Race is viewed as one of the most challenging events with a stiff 20 knots of breeze and lumpy seas. The first night of the race is said to be the most dreadful and difficult of all. With the sailors getting a feel of how difficult the race might get, the situations improve second day onward. And as the sailors approach Philippine coast, the game takes up a look of cat and mouse game with each one trying to leave behind the other. The whole look of the race is one to look out for. With sailors pacing up their yachts under the blue sky, it’s all very magnificent to witness. The very unpredictable costal breeze plays the deciding factor many-a-time. Breeze can turn the whole game around.

Over the course of time, the race has transformed from being very ’cruisy’ to one of Asia’s finest offshore races. The boats accredited by IRC are eligible to participate in the Rolex China Sea Race. Karl Kwok who set a record by hitting the final line in 47 hr 43 min 07 sec on the Open 60 Beau Geste still remains with a strong IRC division likely to include the TP52’s Strewth, Evolution Racing and FfreeFire 52, together with the winner of title Line of Honours, Neil Pryde on his Welbourn 52, Hi Fi and evergreen Mills 51, EFG Mandrake, Karl Kwok’s 10 year old record is well under danger.

The Rolex China Sea Race is a grand event that every sailor from Hong Kong and South East Asia looks up to and wishes to be a part of. This endeavor of Rolex provides a chance to the sailors to portray their talents. Come April 01, 2010 and all eyes will be glued to catch the eventful Rolex China Sea Race once again.
